Record and transcribe on the phone itself.

DiPLO Pocket

DiPLO

Get it on Google Play Download on the App Store

No account. No cloud. Nothing uploaded. It works with the network switched off — put the phone in flight mode and it still writes down what you said.

Free, with a premium tier. iPhone and Android.

Three things, and then the detail

It runs on your phone. Transcription happens on the device, using NVIDIA’s Parakeet model. There is no server involved at any point, which is why it works offline and why your recordings cannot leak from somewhere you have never heard of.

It records properly. Most transcription apps treat recording as a red button. This one was built by audio engineers, and the recording is half the job: no speech model recovers words the microphone never captured cleanly.

Your library, on your computer, without a cloud. Turn on Wi-Fi transfer and your whole library is served to your laptop’s browser over your own network, behind a PIN.

What it does

Free, and nothing is counted

  • Unlimited recordings and unlimited transcription — no quota, because there is no server to pay for
  • 25 European languages, detected automatically. Nothing to set
  • Punctuation, casing, and every line timestamped
  • Tap any line of the transcript to jump to that moment in the audio
  • Three processors tuned for speech on the way in: noise reduction, voice cleanup, de-esser
  • Markers while you record, so the moment you came for is findable later
  • Tags, rename, and search inside every transcript you have ever made
  • Share the audio and the transcript together, as Markdown
  • Record to MP3 or WAV
  • Import audio you already have, or share it into DiPLO from another app — including the audio track of a video

Premium

  • Send your whole library to your computer over Wi-Fi, straight to the browser
  • Rex, the high-quality transcription model
  • Speaker identification (beta): transcripts split by who is talking
  • Advanced control over the voice processing chain
  • WAV at 48 kHz and 24/32-bit

Privacy, and how to check it rather than trust us

Transcription runs on the device. The only outbound connection DiPLO ever makes is downloading the speech model itself, once, over HTTPS. There are no accounts, no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reporting.

There is no server of ours in the middle to be breached, sold, or subpoenaed. For interview material that is a different kind of answer than a privacy policy.

You do not have to take our word for it:

Check the stores' own disclosures. Apple's App Privacy section and Google Play's Data safety section both say the same thing: no data collected, no data shared. Those are declarations we are accountable for, published by Apple and Google, not by us.

Then test it. Record something, put the phone in aeroplane mode, and ask for a transcript. If it appears, nothing went anywhere. That test works on any transcription app, and it is worth running on all of them.

Languages

25 European languages, detected automatically — there is no language to pick, and it copes with a recording that switches between them.

What it does not cover: languages outside that set. Hindi, Arabic, Chinese and Japanese are not supported. We would rather say so here than have you find out after installing.

Price

DiPLO is free, and the free tier is not a trial: unlimited recordings, unlimited transcription, nothing counted.

Premium is a monthly or yearly subscription with the first 7 days free, or a one-time Lifetime purchase for anyone who would rather not subscribe. The price in your country is shown in the app before you buy.

Questions people actually ask

The first transcription is taking forever. Is it broken?

No. The first time you transcribe, DiPLO downloads the speech model — around 416 MB, once. It looks like the app has frozen when what it is doing is downloading. Leave it on Wi-Fi with the screen on and let it finish. After that everything runs on the device, and no transcription needs the network again.

Does it really work offline?

Yes, after that first download. Aeroplane mode, no SIM, no Wi-Fi — it makes no difference.

How long does transcribing take?

A fraction of the audio's length on a recent phone, longer on older hardware. Your phone is doing work a datacentre would otherwise do, which is the trade you make for the recording never leaving it.

I have a promo code. Where do I put it?

On iPhone: open the link we sent you on the phone, with DiPLO installed. It redeems itself.

On Android: inside the app, not in the Play Store's "Redeem code" screen. Settings → DiPLO Premium → tap the lifetime plan → accept Google's terms screen (that one does not charge anything) → then tap the arrow next to the payment method to open the list. "Redeem code" is in there. That last step is the one nobody finds.

Can I get my recordings onto my computer?

Yes. Wi-Fi transfer serves the library from the phone to your own browser on your own network, behind a PIN. No cable, no cloud, no account.

Is my audio used to train anything?

No. It never leaves the phone, so there is nothing to train on.
